Welcome to Copper Feather Studio

Fine Art Sculpture by Chris McMinn

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website.  It's my great hope that you find my work not only beautiful and visually appealing, but something that maybe speaks to you on a deeper level, a spiritual level. I tried to explain my thought process in a short description beneath each picture in an effort to show how my pieces speak to me.  But, my sincerest hope is that each piece means something special to each person.  Maybe it will awaken something hidden inside you, long forgotten.  That would be wonderful.

What inspires me...

I developed this style from many years of research in the field of metaphysics and while searching for my spiritual identity.  Many ideas came from meditating for years and reading hundreds of spiritual and religious books.  I used to doodle and draw these images and was inspired by their form and ancient sacred origins.  I have developed my own unique method for framing the pieces using old reclaimed wood and creating original hand hammered corner brackets that have meaning as well.  To me, this is what frames the sculpture and what anchors it and is integral in its representation and is equally important in the overall design.   I am interested in the juxtaposition of wood and metal and varying patinas, textures and finishes.  That is why I enjoy working with many varying colored textured backgrounds, which also have significance.  I love the effect of combining all these element found in nature into something striking, moving and powerful.  I look forward to experimenting more with all of these amazing combinations within nature.

And if you have and idea, a vision, or feel like you want a custom piece, don't be afraid to call me and we can work together on something special that has personal meaning.  I love collaborating with clients.

Biography...

Chris McMinn is a life-long resident of Northern Virginia.  He lived his early life in two worlds, a horse farm just outside of Middleburg  and a suburban upbringing in Sterling Park.   Chris comes from a family of very creative and artistic people and this early exposure to art  ultimately shaped his life path.  Over many years he was continuously fascinated by the process of painting pictures, drawing, welding metals and creating art using many interesting techniques.  This early exposure and love of creating art eventually helped guide him on his ultimate path, persuing an art career at Virginia Commonwealth University where he obtained his degree in Fine Arts “Painting and Printmaking”.

After graduating from VCU, Chris’ many creative paths led him to work for a custom sign shop. His “award winning” signs and paintings can be seen across the country including a majority in Virginia, Maryland, and DC.  Interestingly, a large portion of his work graces the streets of Middelburg VA where his unique style and design have earned several awards for excellence from the County of Loudoun.   Although proud of his vast portfolio of custom sign work, Chris never stopped wanting to pursue his life-long fascination with art and metal sculpture.  He always dreamed of having his own shop and a place to create for himself the beautiful pieces he had only dreamed of.

Recently, Chris moved back to Warrenton Virginia, where he has embarked on this new journey of discovery about himself and his work. Here his new studio named “Copper Feather” was born. When asked about his work Chris stated, “I believe my work is a divine gift, an expression of a power and from an intelligent creator that works through us all.  I embrace the spiritual and magic experiences in my life and I’m inspired by a deep belief in something unseen, powerful, loving and mystical”. This sacred relationship with his work and belief in divine inspiration helps guide Chris while he works and shapes the designs he creates.  He hopes to bring this sacredness to all who view and appreciate his works of art.  Look forward to many more pieces from “Copper Feather” for this exciting journey is just beginning.
